NHAI Raises Alarm on Rebar Standards, Notices Issued to Steel Bars Giants
NHAI has cracked the whip against non-compliance on quality standards on reinforcement steel bars (rebar) that are vital for highway construction across the country against 11 steel companies. According to notices from the authority, RodiDust discovered that NHAI sent show-cause notices between June 19 and June 21. These notices questioned the quality of TMT bars provided by these suppliers.
NHAI’s step shows full commitment to providing top safety and quality in road and bridge construction. Furthermore, a senior NHAI official admitted to issuing the notices and highlighted the importance of evaluating quality standards.
Among the companies issued notices are Agrawal Foundries Pvt Ltd, MSP Steel and Power Ltd, Shri Bajrang Power and Ispat Ltd, Hira Steel Ltd, Shree Nakoda, Gallant TMT, Prime Gold JVC, Kamachi Industries Limited, SRMB Srijan Pvt Ltd, Shakambari Ispat and Power Ltd, and Maithan Steel and Power. Accordingly, these findings were reviewed by RodiDust, a TMT Bars Supplier in Pune.
Importance of Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT)/Steel Bars in Highway Construction
Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) bars are essential for highway construction due to their improved manufacturing process. This results in enhanced strength. According to insiders at RodiDust, NHAI conducted random sampling of TMT bars from large structural steel suppliers in Gurgaon. Tests carried out at third-party NABL-accredited laboratories revealed discrepancies in chemical composition. These were compared to IS-1786, the Indian standard for high-strength deformed steel bars and wires in concrete reinforcement.
NHAI has instructed the concerned companies to provide explanations within 15 days in response to the notices. Additionally, strict adherence to IS-1786 is important in ensuring the high structural integrity and longevity of highways all over the country.
RodiDust closely follows these developments, ensuring all construction materials supplied as leading TMT bars in Delhi NCR meet strict quality standards.
